Palermo markets

Our Sunday morning walking tour to the Piazza Marina provided an interesting juxtaposition. The 14^th century Palazzo Chiaromonte Steri which looks onto the piazza was the headquarters of the Inquisition in the 17^th century, and heretics were regularly burnt to death there.

Today the Sunday morning flea markets in the piazza were a delight, with all kinds of trash and treasure (though mostly the former, I suspect), and a gelato van cruising around the perimeter playing Italian music.
