Our Sunday morning walking tour to the Piazza Marina provided an interesting juxtaposition. The 14th century Palazzo Chiaromonte Steri which looks onto the piazza was the headquarters of the Inquisition in the 17th century, and heretics were regularly burnt to death there.
Today the Sunday morning flea markets in the piazza were a delight, with all kinds of trash and treasure (though mostly the former, I suspect), and a gelato van cruising around the perimeter playing Italian music.
