Wallhanging - St Andrew's Cathedral, Sydney (Australia)
1999
When the cathedral building was closed for major restoration during 1999 we held our services in the Chapter House. My husband, at the time the Anglican Dean of Sydney, asked me if I would make a large wallhanging for this temporary worship space. It was to be approximately 3 metres wide and 5 metres high and used design elements from the cathedral's stained glass windows and representations of city buildings. It took up the entire available floor space in my living room for 6 weeks as I constructed it.
Sara, the young girl sitting on the steps in the bottom right of the wallhanging, was a streetperson who lived in the protection of the cathedral. She was so excited when she saw herself portrayed on the quilt. Sara found Christ before tragically taking her own life.

Mothers' Union presentation quilt for Pam Goodhew, wife of the Archbishop of Sydney Harry Goodhew
2000
This was a collaborative quilt which I co-ordinated, and was made by many loving hands for our MU Patron, Pam Goodhew, when her husband the Archbishop of Sydney retired. It sat on a huge frame in my lounge room for many months while we had weekly quilting bees where anyone who wanted to put in some stitches could join us.
Pam is seen here between MU President Mary Coyne and me (South Sydney Vice President).
It won first prize!
Postcard from Sydney
2004
I made this mini quilt for a Challenge at the Southern Cross Quilters Auckland Retreat in 2004.It won first prize!
2005
I designed this quilt as the official take-home souvenir quilt pattern distributed in the "Welcome" bags at the Southern Cross Quilters Sydney Retreat in 2005.
The quilt I made for my friend Alicia when she was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2005
I made good use of the pink section of my scrap stash, even including some pieces that used to belong to Alicia's late mother. I worked round the clock to make this in just a week so I could have it ready to spread over her when she came out of the anaesthetic after her operation.
Alhambra Romance
2006
I made this wedding quilt for my son and daughter-in-law after they had enjoyed a romantic overseas trip where he proposed. Since the inspiration for this quilt was a tiled wall of the Alhambra in Grenada, every piece was hand appliqueed to a single piece of cream coloured background, leaving a small gap between the pieces to simulate the grouting between tiles.
I took this hand project with me on a 12 week overseas trip to the Middle East, Egypt and Europe in 2005 and worked on it in many exotic places - at Petra, beside the Grand Canal in Venice, sitting in a cafe in Paris - even when I was hospitalised with dysentry in Cairo!
Rose of Sharon Quilt
2007
This was a quilt I made for no reason at all. It came from my imagination, and the completed hand-appliqueed central medallion, featuring the Rose of Sharon, languished in a cupboard for a couple of years before I found the perfect reason to finish it - as a gift for my other daughter-in-law's Korean parents. The Rose of Sharon (mugunghwa) is Korea's national flower.
