Gillian’s Doll's House

At St Mark’s Quilters we’re always interested in seeing the other projects everyone’s working on when they’re not making beautiful Blankets of Love. Last week Gillian brought along a cute little embroidered wall-hanging she made for her granddaughter, Brooke.

To me, the most intriguing part was seeing the pigtails, bunches, plaits and curly hair in 3 dimension on those figures.

However it was this finished piece that had us all enthralled.

Here it is open, showing the bedroom.

This little doll’s house appealed to the “little girl” in all of us.

February Photo a Day Challenge Day 16–Something new (times two!)

Fresh to my mailbox from the lovely folk over on the other side of the world at Book Depository – two inspirational books on how to turn leftover fabric strips  into some of the most imaginative scrap quilts I’ve ever seen.

StringQuiltsScrapRepublic

As a compulsive scrap-keeper I’m itching to try out those strippy triangles in Emily Cier’s Scrap Republic, and I’ve already started stripping …er…cutting my strips for the Picket Fence quilt pattern in Elsie Campbell’s String Quilts after seeing this version Linda’s making.

When will I show you mine? Let me surprise you one day Be right back

February Photo a Day Challenge Day 14 - Heart

Little Venetian glass heart I picked up in that beautiful city a few years ago.

Fabric .... Of course!

Let’s make a quilt!

With their squares all rotary cut during last week’s lesson, this week our newbies couldn’t wait to sew them together.

Just look at them all sitting up straight and listening attentively while Di B explains machine needles, thread and the all-important matter of accuracy and the scant 1/4 inch seam.

Sophie managed to pin and line up her squares beautifully.

Sarah pressed her seams in opposite directions for each row so they would “nest” together perfectly when she came to pin and sew them.

Caroline’s caught the quilting bug!

It’s a pity Judy was clearly not having a good time Be right back

With their quilt tops finished faster than expected, some of our newbies, like Maud, went on to learn how to sandwich their quilt tops, batting and backings together ready for machine quilting in the next lesson.

It’s hard to say who’s having the most fun here – our novice quilters or the teachers, Team Di!
